I have a K7VZA mainboard with a 1300 Duron and VIA chipset. I would like to upgrade and have found a motherboard bundle consisting of an ATX motherboard with Sempron 3000 processor, 512Mb memory but with a SIS chipset. Could I use this without having to re-install windows etc.

all help appreciated!

If you install a new motherboard you usually need to do a clean install as your drivers will be different.

Have a look here for some ideas.

I would agree that re-installing Windows is usually a good idea and if it's XP, then it's usually relatively pain free (not like the old Windows 95 days).

As to bundles... The Sempron processor is getting a bit long in the tooth these days. Not sure what your budget is, but maybe worth a look at:

This is a pretty good firm to buy from.

Good luck.

PS. It "is" possible to get away without re-installing Windows, but it's not usually worth the hassle and it more than likely will come back and bite you at some later date!
