motherboard problems with laptop

I have a sony vaio vgn fs315s laptop. the laptop does not boot up on switching it on. has the motherboard gone? it is now out of warranty and is it worth having it looked at, as i can imagine just to get a quote can be quite expensive. should i just get a new laptop instead? if its worth a look, can u please recommend a laptop repair centre?

thank you

TRy booting off mains with battery removed.

Check fuse in plug

Is the socket where the power cable plugs in loose?
Quite a common fault on laptops.

yes it apears to be loose but the laptop does not boot up

This is the problem

solder holding socket to motherboard has broken away and therefore no power getting through.

It is an easy repair, the hard bit is stripping the laptop and rebuilding it after resoldering the socket. The time it takes makes the repair somewhat costly. click here
