Motherboard & CPU Temperature

What sort of temperature should the motherboard and CPU be in an AMD Athlon XP3000+ (not overclocked) and what is the highest it can be to not damage it?

not quite sure, but you can normally set the system to shut down if the CPU / Motherboard gets to hot. Remember the CPU should have a heatsink and fan sitting on it to cool it down, a quick look whilst running should see if the fans working. to cool the system down you should have a fan inside the box fanning air around, either at the front or back of the system, if its still hot fit another fan in the box
