My monitor goes into standby mode the moment Win 98 boots up. All is OK on the BIOS part but as soon as the win98 logo appears it turns the monitor off. Can boot into win98 using safe mode as this does not seem to affect the monitor.

Thanks in advance

It sounds as though you have your monitor set to shut down after 1 minute.

From safe mode, go to control panel, click on power settings/and have a look in one of the drop down menu's.

Alter the seting to, "Never" click on "Apply" and then ok your way back out to desktop. Reboot in normal mode and this should have cured the problem. J.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in my original text that I had already checked the power management settings and these are not the problem.
