Monitor properties not being retained

Noticed recently that when I boot up the PC, (XP Home) the monitor output is visibly flickering.

GO into Properties and find it's on 60Hz. So change to 100Hz, and it's fine.

But when I re-boot, it goes back to 60Hz

Is there any logical reason for this?

Thanks!

Riight click desktop
properties
settings
advanced
monitor

Make sure hide modes nonitor cannot display is ticked.

That's just in case your monitor wont run at 100.

norm is usually 75

Thanks but it already is ticked, thereby implying the monitor can handle 100Hz (ps, tried with it unticked and there's a 120Hz option whereas with it ticked, 100Hz is the highest)
