Monitor problem "out of range"

  aca 10:15 26 Jan 08

my son has just got a secondhand crt monitor,

when you try to change the monitor resolution to anything higher than 800x600 the screen goes black with message out of range.

also happens on running Dawn of War (assuming that set up of this tries to change resolution)

Dont know whether this is anything I can do or whether I need to source another monitor?

You need a driver for the monitor. If it didn't come with a disc, you will have to go to the manufacturer's web-site, and somewhere under "support" or "downloads" you should find a driver.

could be a refresh rate problem (too high)

but more likely to be VGA card drivers, download latest from manufacturers website...

I uninstalled the monitor in Device Manager, rebooted and Windows reinstalled...

now its ok
