Monitor problem

Acer flat screen. Had it two years no trouble until this week When booting up the screen starts to display and then goes blank. If I switch monitor power off and on several times it eventually seems to work. It is also OK if I just restart the PC rather than shut down and switch off power supply completely.
( My granddaughter has been using my PC and is pretty computer savvy. Might she have done something to affect it?)
Any advice much appreciated.

Hi, I had a similar problem some time ago, in my case the problem was found to be the monitors' power supply on the blink. It was almost new, so I got a free replacement.
