Monitor install driver problem

Hi, I have tried to install a monitor driver on a Dell Dimension 2400 using windows xp home edition. I have clicked on: display properties/settings/advanced/monitor but am then unable to open the 'properties' button as it is not active. Can anyone suggest a reason and hopefully a solution. Thanks

I think you may be confusing Display with Monitor.

I have a fairly old TFT monitor which though it has a maker it is not a well one.
Windows XP Pro is content to call it a plug and play monitor.

Try control panel > system > devices and Display.
This should show what graphics system is installed.
If doesn't show the card or integrated video you should have then you need to install either the motherboard video drivers (for integrated display), or the CD which came with the separate card which is plugged in to the mobo.
