5 times in last 24hrs. monitor has blanked out while in use. Seems to be Windows XP problem because it reboots after a few sconds and all is back to normal. Help please.

Like a loose lead, or graphs card loose/not seated properly/dusty connections on mobo/drivers out of date???

Does the "Power On" light stay on?

How quickly and completely does XP become normal again?

Unless it is a power or lamp failure in the monitor, I would not expect it to recover to the application/s in use, all by itself.

For instance if there was an occasional power interruption to the PC it would make the screen go black and slowly return through all the normal booting messages.

Can you say whether it reboots or just loses the monitor for a few seconds?

"Power stayed on and system rebooted in about 2 mins. Problem now worse,it has just shut off without warning and would NOT reboot. Had no option but to turn off power to computer. Waited 2-3 mins and restarted computer. OK for the moment but obviously something sick. Have taken cover off computer and checked connections as far as possible, seem OK. Internals quite clean."

If you can find something, like a Hair Drier, that blows air.

While everything is turned off. Give the Power Supply a good blast of cold air in both directions
