modem keeps disconnecting

over the past few days my modem just disconnects after sometimes a couple of minutes and up to 40 mins, is the modem faulty (intel 536ep v92#2)i dont know what the hash 2 represents or could it be freeserve as being faulty.......stumped

The #2 means U have install the modem twice. Goto Control Panel-System-Hardware. Remove both of them. Then restart Ur Pc. Try that.

Are you sure its 'not' your ISP dropping the line.
Contact them to see if theres been any probs?

It just might be that you have selected "Hang up after sending and receiving" in OE>Tools>Options>Connection tab or you have configured a program to "Check for updates" and which then disconnects.

tried all of those still disconnecting as and when it wishes anybody any other ideas please

Phone up your PhoneLine providor not ISP then tell them to do a line gain check, BT do it but not sure about others!
