I am considering upgrading my mobo/processor. It is a simple componant change or are their files on the HD that the Mobo uses on boot up? I'm running XP and am aware of the h/ware change may do to the registration of my XP copy

It will be highly unlikely that you will be able to upgrade mobo/proc and be able to boot successfully.

I have tried several times but always unsuccessful.

The best method is to back up all data you wish to keep before commencing upgrade.

Once upgraded reformat you C drive and reinstall OS.

Ensure you have all the required drivers for your hardware to hand.

I'm not an expert so I'm sure the more technical will give additional info. Anyway will put you to the top again.
