Mobile phone access in the USA

Younger daughter has gone to Florida for a short break taking her BlackBerry with her. She uses the Orange mobile network when at home in the UK.

Will she be able to pick up a signal in the States or do they use a completely different/incompatible radio frequency over there?

She will be fine but, and it is a big but..

The cost of making and receiving calls and texts is high but the cost of data is very very high.

She will receive a text from Orange when she first gets there telling her the charges she will incur.

Thanks bremner, it's reassuring to know that she's contactable in case of need.
