".mix" file format conversion

I have an email with a file extension in ".mix" format & am unable to open it. Please can you advise on a prog/ graphics besides microsoft. I see the pic on "thumbnail" but WXP sp2 viewer won't show it.

This is a Microsoft "Picture It" file which, I believe, you have to pay for the program to be able to open the file.

Ask your sender to re-send in a more compatible format.

This discussion suggests that you can view .mix pictures in Word click here, but it's always best to send pictures in a universal format such as jpg.

If the format is from Microsoft then it seems crazy that Microsoft WXP viewer will not show it. Is there no patch or update available ?
