Missing space

  AL47 00:03 21 Jan 07

I was running low on space on my computer so bought an external hard drive.

I dumped a load of stuff on to that and when i went back and checked the amount i could account for most but 5gb is missing.

Could someone explain?

System Volume Information files (system restore points) are stored on your HDD if you haven't turned this function off for some time it maybe this that is taking up the 5gigs you cannot account for.
Requires reboot to gain space back used by this function and of course you loose them all by doing this so if you are happy the way your PC is running ,try that ..

the system restore only shows about 6 points
