Missing partition - it's doing my head in!

I've just experienced a "fatal attack" by the Zlob.downloader trojan which totally killed my machine. I took the bull by the horns and bought a new 500GB drive which I've installed, I coupled up the original, infected, drive as a slave with the intention of loading the operating system on the new drive and treating the old drive as a second one. When loading XP Home, I was asked if I wanted to partition the new drive which I did - 100GB for software and 400GB for data. I now find that the 400GB opartition isn't seen, neither is my old drive. Am I doing something wrong? Advice would be appreciated

"I now find that the 400GB opartition isn't seen, "

Disk management?

right click my computer > manage > disk management. Is it there?

If it is right click and make new volume/partition.
