missing operating system

in bios and my hard drive is detected as third ide master not first or second, is this right? help

Is this the same problem as your other post?

Where the hard drive is doesn't really matter as long as the BIOS is allowed to search for the op system on it under boot devices.

hi there, yes similar problem as before. still getting message ' missing operating system'. checked hard drive in place and bios is detecting it ok. i'm getting the sense it has alot to do with the hard drive partition set up but eveytime i use the recovery disc it keeps coming up with the big red error message. cant seem to get to command prompt to carry out boot repair

The MBR will be screwed you need to run the Fixmbr command via the recovery console or if your on W7 just run a startup repair via the Windows recovery Enviroment
