Missing File

On bootup of Windows XP, I get the following message, "windows root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" is missing or corrupt.

Can anyone guide me on how I replace this file to get the system going.

Insert the XP Cd and choose "repair"

I've gone into repair, using the CD, and I've done chkdsk and fixboot but that hasn't helped.
Am I not doing the right thing.

From the little research I did into this error, it would seem people had success from copying over a version of the file from another machine.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I've got plenty to try, I'll post the result asap.

If you want to download a new bootup screen DO NOT go to the site suggested on my link (very iffy). Use Google to find a safe one.

My link is safe though, just the site suggested on it isn't.
