Missing CD/DVD rom

  Jada 20:42 04 Dec 05

Hello all

My daughter seems to have lost her DVD drive from both my computer and Device manager. There does appear to be power to the drive though.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Try system restore if using XP.

Ensure that all the connections are firm and try Removing the drive in Device Manager and then rebooting.

Windows should reinstall the basic CDROM driver and, hopefully, Add New Hardware will find the drive.

also run Ck/disk and Id suggest a virus scan

Can you check the BIOS is picking it up?

When the PC first starts look for a message that says something like Press DEL to enter setup - hit DELETE and it'll take you into the BIOS.

Look for something like Auto Detect Drives and go into that. See if the DVD drive shows up.
