missing cabinet file

having rebooted and installed xp pro anything i install comes up with missing cabinet file what have i done wrong help please

Maybe you uninstalled something and corrupt a shared file of have you changed any hardware ?.

i reformatted i have been told that .ddl and .cab files are not all installed when you put in new xp you have to look for them on disk but its all to confusing
