Missing address bar in internet explorer 6

My computer is set to receive automatic downloads from Microsoft, and I am wondering whether this accounts for the above.Whether some update has changed things without me noticing?. I cannot account for the change and I have not messed with IE. I can no longer enter a website address except through my ISP's seacrh (Tiscali)which is supported by Google. Thus I can search for subjects but not for website addresses. I run XP and have recently got broadband a couple of months ago, but this problem only started last week. Any ideas?

Right click on empty space on taskbar then toolbars/ address. A space appears to put in the address.
