Minolta's answer may help someone.

Thank you for contacting us concerning the combination of the Dimâge Scan
Dual and Windows XP. This is a complex situation please read all of the
following details carefully before proceeding any further.

Please visit this particular compatibility page for the latest news on this
combination.

Please also be aware that whilst this scanner has worked successfully on
all previous versions of Windows. The new Windows XP version has changed
substantially in its acceptance of SCSI devices. We are unable to provide
support for SCSI boards and their compatibility with your computer, or
Windows XP. For information on Adaptec SCSI boards please visit
click here If you have an Adaptec AVA2903 board please search
for the AVA2902.

Some early examples of Dimage Scan Dual may require a ROM update internally
this requires the installation of new parts and extensive testing. This
carries a workshop charge of £113.97 inc VAT. Scanners from 1997 - late 98
will require this service. Scanners from late 98 onwards were manufactured
as compatible with Mac G3, the box would have carried a sticker to this
effect. Minolta does not have a list of serial numbers that can confirm
this as the serial number use was non consecutive during the products long
life. You can also check the version of the ROM in your scanner if you have
connection to the scanner with an earlier version of Windows than XP, e..g.
Windows 98SE. Connect the scanner, Launch the Software in the normal manner
and then place the mouse on the Minolta logo in the top left corner (see
ROM Version image below). If the ROM is version 1.0 or 1.01 then the
scanner is not Windows XP compatible and will require the update mentioned
above. If the ROM version is 1.1 or 1.11 then the scanner is Windows XP
compatible, please continue.

The newer Dimage Scan Dual II and DiMAGE Scan Dual III do not require any
technical changes to work on XP. Please do not confuse these products with
this situation.

To download the latest drivers for this scanner please visit
click here - visit the above compatibility website
first and check all compatibility details. Download the driver as if using
one of the earlier OS (Ver 2.0.1). Windows XP is not listed as we need
customers to be aware of the information on the above site first. The driver
available on this site is the correct one. Do not use any drivers from a
Minolta installation disc, if you have already attempted this then please
use the ADD and REMOVE PROGRAMS option on your CONTROL PANEL to remove that
version of the software, before you install the new version. Should you not
have connection to the internet we will produce a CD-R of this version of
the software. We make a charge of £10.00 for this to cover costs. Please
contact us if you require this. (01908 200400)
