Hi folks,I'm being offered an "important" update on my vista computer for Microsoft.NET framework 3.5 service pack and .NET framework 3.5 family update x 86.Is this really an important update?Should I install it?Any help is much appreciated.Thank you.

hiwatt,
The size of the file seems to be the main problem:

Thanks provider 2.I looked through the latest posts and never noticed this one. It's saying that the download size is 17.1mb-55.5mb.So it looks as if most people are downloading it.I'm not exactly sure if I need it though?

Wondered when this would appear... the thread that is. Installed it this Am... took ages too, around 25 mins all together. Even after running disc cleanup afterwards the free space is noticeably down by around 1gb... all the old stuff must still be there in order to perform a system restore back if needed I guess.

So what(if any)are the benefits of installing this update?

Hi hiwatt,

It will be needed for NEW software applications, written for the framework, that you install on your computer.

It's weird the XP version for my notebook was 248MB and the Vista Version for my desktop was 55.5MB. Perhaps Vista has more of the components that it consists of already incorporated.

Is everyone installing this "update" then?

As I mentioned in a previous post...The file size is O / S dependent:

Vista 58MG

XP 248 MG

MCE 248 MG

hiwatt:

Yes you should install it, I've had no issues either with Vista, or XP, and it has not been offered to me on my BETA Windows 7 machine.
