Microsoft Word XP

Having an annoying problem with word, where if I highlight a word and try to retype over it to replace the word, as soon as I press the keys the new word types in front of the highlighted word - it does replace it.

Anyone know how to sort this out?!

Look for Insert on the keyboard, above the arrow keys. Press once for insert and again to go back to normal.

No it's nothing to do with the Insert key because when I try to type over a highlighted word it doesn't type over the word, it just types the letters in fornt of it not over.

Have you tried `delete` before typing the new or correct word?

Yeah that works but I should be able to type directly over the word without having to press delete or backspace.

you do need to use the insert key to select overtype mode but do not highlight the word

Go to Tools, Options, Edit tab. Tick the box labelled "Typing replaces selection" then it should do what you want.
