Microsoft word won't start

Any bright ideas? I am running windows ME and have had works/word for about 2 years with no problems. I have 512mb ram. For the last month, when I try opening word, the system freezes and eventually tells me I am dangerously low in resources, and asks if I would like to terminate winword. Then it won't run any other programs cos of insufficient memory. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling works and word from the cd. Could it be another program/conflict? The only new software is fuji digital camera software and spybot. I have up to date AVG and adaware. All other programs run fine. I'm stumped.

This is usually caused by a corrupted normal.dot file, which is Word's default template. A reinstallation/repair of Word does not re-create the file.

Make sure Windows is showing file extensions. If not, go to Folder Options, View tab, and untick "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.

Make sure that Word is closed.

Then Search on your computer for the file normal.dot.

Rename it to normal.old.

Start Word to see if it opens correctly.
