Search your hard drive for a file called

NORMAL.DOT

rename it to OLDNORMAL.DOT

start Word again.

Thanks I'll tell him to try that.

Why though? Is it something you've come across before?

Sorry by way of explanation. For some reason Word makes the occasion change to the NORMAL.DOT file. Even when it doesn't need to. Eventually the file become huge and corrupt. Renaming or deleting it solves this problem because if Word can't find it it generates a new copy!!!!!!

There are 3 or 4 other symptoms of a corrupt NORMAL.DOT file...

Let you if it works tomorrow.

You need to enable searching for hidden files and folders.

If yoou have Word you definitely have normal.dot

Delete or rename - doesn't matter
