Microsoft Windows Search Indexer

I have just started getting the following error message every so often, 'Microsoft Windows Search Indexer has encountered a problem'. I have removed Norton Internet Security 2006 and installed aShampoo Anti Virus & Firewall Pro, but whether this is the cause of the problem I do not know. My computer runs XP with SP2. What is Microsoft Windows Search Indexer, and can it be turn off? If so, how?

I have windows desktop search installed and sometimes I get this error after a reboot.A second reboot cures it, but it is a pain. I am not using it now.

I tried turning off the Indexing Service but the problem is still there.
