Microsoft Update faulty?

I’ve got a problem with one of Microsoft’s ‘high priority updates’, KB896424.
Along with a raft of other H/P Updates I let automatic update upload on Friday the 18 November.

The problems started during reboot with my computer returning to boot again part way though loading the desktop image and icons. It just would not progress past this point.
At one stage I was unable to start in safe mode.
I finally used Drive Image to import an image and get back up and running.

Finally, I uploaded the fixes one at a time to isolate the rouge fix and installed all identifying, KB896424 as the problem.

I did find mention of a fault with a Windows update on the web at Trend Micro.
After leaving the updates for a few days expecting Microsoft to have fixed the software, I tried again and again my computer would keep going back to reboot.

Any ideas?
