My MSE screen tells me it's up to date, yet I never get an on screen notification that it's been done. Can any users tell me "if update done" messages should appear?

No, such messages don't appear. MSE generally keeps itself up to date, with just an occasional update needing human intervention! At least that is what I have found - been running MSE since it first appeared on the scene.

Thank you Technotiger.

If you open MSE (Click the icon in system tray) and select the "update" tab it will show date updates created (and therefore installed)... think that's what you are doing.

All updates appear in Windows update screen (control panel > windows update) so that should be full :)

All MSE's activity can be checked by opening Event Viewer > and then expanding Windows Logs > System and scrolling down the list.

Lack of info was one of the major complaints of MSE but the official reply is that MSE is designed to operate as silently as possible... which it does. I find it excellent.
