Microsoft Office problems

I am trying to tranfer the microsoft office programs which i bought for my XP computer, onto my new PC with Vista. I no longer have to CD so am transferring the files via USB stick. I have copied them into my programs folder, but when i try to access them i get an error message-
"The operating system is not currently configured to run this application".
Any ideas how to fix this problem?

You can't transfer programs from one computer to another.

You will need the original install CDs and install them.

The programs?

Do you mean that or the data that is used by the programs. I was not aware that it was possible to transfer programs without the installation disc.

Ok so if i found the disk then these programs should work on my new pc? It wont matter that i installed them on the old pc previously?

i just copied the folder contents from my old PC, which contained all the office files.
Obviously this will not work from what pj123 has said.
