I have or had Office XP. Recently I was invited by Microsoft to download something to do with Office 2007 update. I am now confused. What is the difference between a saved file called a Word Document presumably Office XP, and an Office Word Document presumably Office 2007. There is a difference in sizes, that is all I can see. Should I be converting all my old Office XP Word Documents to Office Word Document files? If so, why?

No, you don't need to convert them. Office 2007 can read files saved in earlier versions. However, earlier versions cannot read Office 2007 files without a converter click here
