Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)

I have a fairly new laptop (Inspiron 6400) 2 months old.Installed is Net Framework version 1.1

Do i really need the latest version Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)

If so,why hasn't my auto updates updated it for me ? is this something i can do without ?

Reason behind this question is several problems reported today and after looking through Add and Remove i only then found out i have version 1.1

Ive found the download and had a look, but still unsure if i need this version.

If you do not have any problems then leave it as it is, the program is support for programs that have been written to use advanced features of these new programs
