microsoft access/star office base - compatible???

My daughter is using MS Access as part of her college course. I've been trying to get "Access" files (saved to a memory stick) to work in Star Office "Base", but am having great difficulty, I can get the basic headings etc, but can't seem to enter/change details on the database. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong or is it a general compatability problem? Any suggestions welcomed - I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computers (you might have already guessed!).

According to this click here it can be done.

I don't know much about Star Office, but I think it's similar to OpenOffice, from memory I have imported Access files in OpenOffice, unfortunately I have got a database from Access at the moment to test it.

I think you will find that the only way to read MS Access files in Star Office is to do the following:
Export the MS Access file to a Dbase format (ie .mdb format to .dbf)
Then import the .dbf file format into the Star Office database.

I have used this approach in the past & it has worked for me.
