messed up the partition...

Hi, got a new laptop, it asked for a part of the hard drive for the back up, so I thought I had given it 20gb, but it has landed up taking half of the drive, so now we have about 130gb on each half, first can I get it back, or if not can both halfs be used just like a normal drive for storage and the like and for putting programmes on.

thank you

You can use this to resize your patitions click here reduce 1 partition to what ever size uou want, but 20 GB is a bit large for a recovery partition. But its up to you.

Depends what you mean by "backup"
Most laptops have a hidden partition... so I would be wary about what you try and do as if you loose that or make it undetectable you can't do a factory restore in future.

If the laptop has it's own backup utility similar to Acronis then these images will take up a lot of space. It's normal for a drive to be split 50/50
Backups of just personal data take much less room... how much depends on what you have stored.
