Memory upgrade

  Billp64 09:56 20 Dec 09

I have older Dell 4600 dimension processor 3.02 with 512 ram and have 4 separate 1gig memory to go in.
Running XP but have copy win 7 premium.
Is ther any benefit in putting the 4gig and removing the 512 or would it run the same with the 2+512 installed. Not sure how win 7 will run on this older computer which I use most. I do have a laptop if not that win 7 will go on anyway which is vista compatible again running XP.
A friend has the same Dell so if the memory makes no difference might as well let them have more memory for free.
Any advice appreciated.

Run the Crucial memory system scanner click here and it will tell you the maximum memory your PC will take. If you have the 32 bit version of Windows 7, it will recognise and use between 3 and 3.5Gb of RAM. The 64 bit version can run with higher amounts of RAM.
