memory test

my wife uses now uses my old computer the system is windows xp home edition on bootup it goes through a memory test, other than pressing the escape key can this be deleted from starting up.

any help would be appreciated.

I've got a feeling that you can disable this in the BIOS settings by opting for Fast Boot. There should be some info in your motherboard manual.

You can normally access the BIOS setup by pressing "Del" or sometimes F2 when the computer is starting up i.e. before you get to the Windows splash screen.

Do not alter anything if you are not sure that you know what you are doing.

You need to look for "Quick Power-On Self Test" or "Fast Boot". Whatever it is called if this is enabled it will skip the memory test. Then save changes and exit.
