This may sound a stupid question, but I want to add another memory stick(1gb) to my pc which will make it 2gb of ram, can I insert the card the wrong way round or does it matter as long as it goes into the slot and locks in?

can I insert the card the wrong way round

yes if you push hard enough, but don't do that as it will break the stick of the motherboard.

the stick has "offset cut outs" to prevent incorrect insertion. pace in slot and lock in place with the two outer tabs, if thes will not engage then stick is wrong way round or incorrect for your board.
