memory stick and 64 bit

i have just upgraded to a 64 bit system, asus K8S-MX board and AMD semperon 2800. everthing works fine apart from my usb memory pendrive. when plugged in to the usb socket it is recognised and you can open from my computer and view the contents of the drive but as soon as you try to open any document or program on the drive it hangs and the indicator on the pen drive goes out, later i am told the program or file is at an unavailable location

i have done the full xp install twice so its not the installation.
my usb printer is fine so its not the usb sockets.
i have tried the pen drive in 2 other computers and it works fine.
i took everything off the pen drive formatted it and put everything back on and still it wont work

any ideas thanks

Perhaps you need to update you usb drivers
Check your chipset drivers.
Alternatively go into your bios and change your usb settings.

sorry just read your thread properly,
maybe there is a firewall connection stopping it.
Try transfering the files to your desktop and open them from there and not the drive.

Faulty motherboard?
Used the same slot that the printer works ok on?
I take it we're talking 32 bit XP here, not 64?
