Memory Settings

I'm starting out on the overclocking route and am in need of a bit of advice.

How do I overclock memory, is it not done by the FSB?

Is there a piece of software out there that tells you exactly what your memory is running at?

Sorry for the simple questions.

Before you begin I would advise you to have a look round at overclocking forums for better advice.
Memory can be altered or speeded up in quite a few ways best if you understand what and why first.
