i have a 3and a half year old pc.i have
a msi motherboard which supports 256mb ram
maximum. ihave 2 slots. since adding another
128mb to slot 2 it is not recognized. both
128mb work in slot 1. my moterboard came
under the heading on the msi website as
a slot 1 motherboard. does that mean i
can put my maximum 256mb in the one slot.
thanks.

Have you tried using memory in slot 2 on its own,if so and it wont recognise either stick then it is the slot that is the problem.
If it does recognise both sticks of memory then it means your 2 sticks are incompatable.
