Memory keeps going down

my hard disk memory is constantly decreasing. i have used around 14gb but only 5gb is shown on the add/remove program list. Where is all the rest of the memory being used, and why does it go down on its own?

thanks james

It is actually hard disk space that you mean.

Don't forget that Windows takes up quite a lot of room.

My fathers laptop had a similar problem. I could not work out the cause but I suspect it may have been something in Windows doing wrong and not marking files as deleted on the disk. However the only way I got things fixed was to reinstall XP as it filled to 99% and I could no longer get anywhere with it.

Hard drive spave doesn't just start dissapearing on it's own.

You can use ccleaner to see if that will recover some space from click here

In the meantime, look for any software that may be misbehaving or programs that you've installed which may be downloading updates, etc in the background (although generally this isn't in the Gigabyte arena.)

Also, do you have Norton installed?
