i get a message saying The Instruction at 0x01af67ec referenced memory at 0x01671fa4
the memory could not be "read"
any ideas?

I believe that this could be linked to explorer and by inseting your windows disk, rebooting and selecting the 'repair windows' option may do the trick. But try VoG's suggestion first...
