? Memory bottleneck

I'm just about to replace my Athlon 1200 with an Athlon XP2400 in my MSI KM2M Combo-L Motherboard.

I am initially going to use my old PC133 Ram (512mb worth).

I know that this will probably affect the systems speed but has anyone got any idea by how much?

I dont want to splash out on new RAM if the difference will be relitavely small but if it will cause a big slowdown then I will have to consider it.

Ah the joys of budgeting a household :-)

Will that mobo even accept SDRam ? You'll need DDR ram i would have thought.

Yep the Mobo accepts both (not at the same time of course), thats part of the reason I chose it.

this should help click here

Cheers jonnytub, DDR is obviously quicker than PC133 but I'm still not sure wether it will make any practical/noticable difference in my system :-(

PC2100 transfers data twice as quick as PC133.

Your system will suffer a bottleneck as the RAM will operate at 133Mhz and the processor at 266Mhz.

Will you notice a difference?

Yes in memory intensive applications - 3D games, video editing.

Yes if you have several applications running at once.

No if you are only surfing the web or using word.

Hand in pocket time again I guess!
