When using SCSI flatbed scanner thro Photoshop.
This doesn't happen when using 'Vistascan' directly. 768 meg of ram installed

Could mean 'cache' memory. Maybe increasing your paging to same min and max @ 2 - 3 times ram total will work better. (min/max 2100 approx). You can do it via Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Options.

XP seems only to provide an emphasis on cache memory, which I've tried without success. Thanks anyway.

I've just seen a memory tester tool link (given by Taran) in another thread click here which may be worth using.

I downloaded memtest86 a few weeks ago & running the program didn't find any problems with the memory. I think the answer lies elseware.
