I have just tried to install a additional 2 gigs of ram to my Gateway 5407E for a end result of 3 gigs. One of the ram sockets is evidentlly broke and will not pick up any of the ram sticks. I have installed the 2gigs and a 512mb stick totalling 2.5 gig but it will not run in dual channel this way. My question is, is 2 gigs in dual channel better than 2.5 gigs in single channel?
Thanks in advance once again.

2 gb in dual channel works best for me, i have tried 3, 4 gig but always went back to 2 in dual channel. thats on a 32 bit operating system. if you look at any benchmarking program the top runners all seem to have 2x 1gb of 800 hz ram or above, try dual it should make things more responsive.
