hi my new motherboard calls for DDR2 memory i was wondering if i can use plain DDR as i already have DDR

No, DDR2 has more pins so DDR won't actually fit in the DDR2 slot

DDR = 184 pins, DDR2 = 240 pins

You might be able to hammer the DDR memory into the DDR2 slot but it won't work and neither will the motherboard afterwards
