after a software conflict I was instructed to reinstall windowsXP Home which I did

After doing so I had 108GB in D: drive XP Home
and 5.98GB in the Local C: drive

I am now therefore getting low memory warnings
and also have no room to install new software

How can I reallocate memory between the drives

Get Partition Magic to resize your partitions. It's around £40. If your are prepared to reinstall XP again then you are able to do this for nothing as Partition Magic is only needed if you need to keep the data on the hard disk.
