Media Center 2005 & Codecs

Hi everyone,

Just upgraded my PC with Hauppauge Freeview TV card.

I'm running XP Media Center 2005 and all is now working fine, except I can't get Media Center to recognise AVI/Divx/Xvid/MKV files etc.

I'd really like to play all video files within Media Center and not have to install a separate player. I read somewhere on the web to install the FFDSHOW codec pack and media center would then play these files...No luck.

I know codecs can be very tricky to deal with and so before I get in too deep, I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem and overcome it.

At the same time as installing the TV card, I increased system memory to 2.5Gb and took the opportunity to restore the system back to it's original factory condition and start from scratch. Have done all Windows updates and am running with SP3

many thanks in anticipation
