3 yr old aries amd 1.4, currently running ME.
Wishing to change to XP, is it ok to just upgrade or is it advisable to add second hard drive install XP on this and run as dual boot?

I'd backup everything and install xp from fresh.

Do you have an upgrade version or full version?

As Diodorus Siculus suggests do a clean install with XP, I tried to upgrade over the top of ME and had many problems that way.

as yet i have neither, but so far it would appear an upgrade is not ideal.

Don't buy a full version though. You still have the right and the ability to perform a clean installation with an upgrade copy (of retail status) by inserting the ME CD for examination during the XP installation procedure.

That is; if you have either a retail or OEM copy of ME. Any full copy of a valid OS is permitted under the EULA, even if it is OEM. The use of a retail upgrade copy of XP will effectively turn an original OEM licence into a full retail licence. I clarified this with Microsoft UK recently.
