ME not closing down properly

Now that a whole batch of critical updates have been downloaded to my lad's PC the machine doesn't close down properly.

This may be a coincidence of course.

He is left with a black screen but the power stays on.

Can anyone advise please?

Much appreciated.

Suggest you use System Restore to get you back to when the machine was working properly before you downloaded the patches. Then, rather than download all the patches together, download them one at a time (remembering to set a system restore point first before each one). Long road for a shortcut perhaps, but the best advice I can think of.

the Windows update's.

TuneIT

That's what I meant. Get the PC back to how it was before the updates. Then try them (the updates) one at a time to see which one might be causing the problem with shut-down. I used to have ME and had the same sort of problem. Finding out which critical update MAY may be causing the problem.
