I have 2 drives on my computer and on the second drive I intend to put linux on which means I will use the GRUB loader to duel boot.
If it all goes wrong can I use the repair function on the XP cd to restore the master boot record back to just XP or do I have to edit the boot ini file?.

The repair function will actually reinstall XP.

No need to touch the boot.ini file.

Easiest way is to use a 98 startup disk. click here

Boot from that and type: fdisk /mbr

This will put the MBR right = You can boot into windows.

You can use the XP CD but you have to use the recovery console and typing: fixmbr

Will put it right. click here
